Absolutely.
Pros: The food is fantastic. It’s a transportation hub, so public transport is pretty decent.
Cons: The weather can be terrible at certain times of the year, it can get pretty expensive living in Chicago.
Renting, as opposed to buying, usually comes with substantially lower carrying costs. All you really need to worry about when renting is regularly paying for, well, the rent (obviously). It all comes down to your present circumstances (i.e. what your budget will allow, how permanent your work situation is to where you’re relocating, etc.)
There is no real limit to how much any landlord anywhere in the US can raise rent on their property, as currently there is no law that regulates this. The most you can do is find out how much similar properties in the same location are charging their tenants.
Before committing to lease a home, be sure to do your research and learn the market value of the property (i.e. does it have good amenities, is it located in a great location, etc.). Negotiate clearly, but be open to compromise. Better yet, use URP in finding the best place you can temporarily call home without breaking the bank.
